Africa’s Most Powerful Passport

With a score of 151 and Ranking 29th in the 2020 Henley Passport Index, Seychelles still has the most powerful passport in Africa. Although dropping 3 spots from last year’s ranking, Seychelles still has the best passport in Africa and has seen an increase in its visa-free access from 126 countries in 2017 to 151 countries around the world.

Seychelles’ passport strength draws largely from its visa-agreement with the Schengen area and the country’s willingness to discuss visa waivers with other countries.

The Henley Passport Index is the original ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. The ranking is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which maintains the world’s largest and most accurate database of travel information and enhanced by ongoing research by the Henley & Partners Research Department.
